Worst baseball tantrum ever

Check out this minor league manager go ballistic after a call he didn't like.

Guy was suspended for seven days and fined $1,000. But it's not all bad news --  Bush is awarding him the Medal of Freedom.

Bonds targeted?

Bondssportsill_1 I'm reading the steroids book, Game of Shadows, and it's no hymn to Barry Bonds. But it does describe an undercover agent on the case as claiming that a special IRS agent named Novitzky, the driving force behind the investigation:

"...already suspected Bonds was juicing, and wanted to prove it. The IRS agent wasn't a Bonds fan, White said. 'He's such an asshole to the press,' White claimed Novitzky said."

If this is true, it may lend some credence to Bonds's assertion of being targeted for racist reasons. Sounds like the guy didn't like Bonds's "attitude." I've heard Bob Costas, among others, ridicule the notion that race has anything to do with Bonds's legal problems. But one  has to wonder if it were McGwire going for the record, would some federal agent have such a hard-on to take him down.

NY baseball

Mets sweep, Yankees swept. Don't get better than that.

Admittedly, a site with limited appeal

But I am one of the limited.

" For 17 years, every little scrap of money I had went towards feeding my baseball card habit.I've started this site instead of beginning what would amount to decades of therapy."

Pitching strategy

Mets_2The Mets just beat the Yankees in another ball-buster. But I have to say, as a Mets fan, I do not like manager Willie Randolph's strategy of bringing in different relievers to each pitch the 7th, 8th, and 9th. It just seems to me that increases the chance of running into a pitcher who just doesn't have it that night. Why bring Heilman out after pitching the 7th if he looks good? Let him pitch two innings, then bring in Billy Wagner. With three different pitchers finishing up,  odds are much greater that one of them is going to screw it up.

I could express this statistically if I spent the next two hours figuring it out, but I'm not going to do that.

It is accomplished

Sfgiantslogo In its special baseball section today, the  NY Times is picking the Giants to win the West.

Unfortunately, I think the analysis was written by Judith Miller.
